Chris Beorkrem first wrote to us in early July on behalf of his Ragbrai Team, Team +One.  The team, which has been riding the Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa for about 10 years now, attempts to use their week of fun to help raise money for an organization that works to help those affected by cancer or to help further cancer research.  Chris and his sister, Jenny are from Bettendorf and suggested Gilda’s Club to be the recipient of their team’s “small but fiesty fund raising effort” in 2012.

“+one is founded on the philosophy that the whole is greater than the sum of parts – one of my best friends likes to reiterate that in the fight against cancer every little bit [ physically, emotionally, and financially ] counts. So this event, which appears to be a cross between the Tour de France and Woodstock, is about slowing down, sharing stories, riding hard [ they cover an average of 70 miles per day! ] and playing hard. And this group has decided to add one more story this year – a reminder that life is about relationships and nothing can take that away.” – Team +One

Gilda’s Club is both honored and excited to accept the generosity of Team +One and we look forward to cheering them on during their RAGBRAI adventures!  Please click the “donate” link below if you’d like to support Team +One.  Proceeds will go directly to Gilda’s Club Quad Cities to carry out our mission of ensuring that all people impacted by cancer are empowered by knowledge, strengthened by action, and sustained by community.
