April B

April Barnhart

Outreach & Program Coordinator

April (She/Her) is a Quad City native who has also lived in St. Louis and Colorado. She volunteered with Gilda’s Club in 2003. April “was a Gilda stan before stans were a thing!” A lifelong SNL fan, April grew up watching SNL re-runs (alongside current episodes) and was quickly captivated by Gilda, as a comedian and human.

April received an Associate’s Degree (Pre Med & Religious Studies) from Kirkwood Community College (Iowa City, Iowa) in 2008. She briefly studied Religious Studies & Sociology at the University of Iowa and she received a Master’s of Divinity from Earlham School of Religion in 2014. While completing her degree she completed internships as an Interfaith Chaplain (University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics/Health Care Iowa City, Iowa) and a Pastor (Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church: Tipton, Iowa). Post grad school, she was trained in Holy Fire Reiki (Prismscape Gems & Healing Center: Iowa City, Iowa) & Kala Healing techniques (Iluminations: Cedar Rapids, Iowa).

She brings to Gilda’s Club, over 2 decades of customer service, corporate and non-profit HR, Management and Ministry experience. She has worked in a variety of healthcare settings (nursing homes, hospitals and a functional medicine clinic.) April wants to empower you to advocate for yourself and for those that you love. She’s honored to be a Gilda’s Club staff member.

When she’s not here you can probably find her reading, cooking, singing, and/or at a park with her kid and/or writing poetry for her (3rd and most current) blog.
