COVID-19What You Need to Know

Updated 6/22/2021 at 11:57 AM CST:

Dear Gilda’s Club Quad Cities Members and Volunteers,

With regards to the coronavirus, we are thrilled to see our community safely take steps back to normalcy after a long 15 months. On May 16th, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) came forward with new mask guidelines which allow fully vaccinated individuals to resume activities without wearing a mask or physically distancing, except where required by federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, rules, and regulations, including local business and workplace guidance. Gilda’s Club Quad Cities Board of Directors met on May 21st and agreed to follow the CDC guidelines to determine our Clubhouse protocols moving forward.

What this means for fully vaccinated individuals in our Clubhouse Effective June 1st, 2021 (fully vaccinated means 2 weeks post your 2nd vaccine or 2 weeks post J&J vaccine):

  • You can attend programming without wearing a mask or staying 6 feet apart at your own personal discretion.
  • We are no longer requiring the COVID screener upon entrance to our Clubhouse.
  • We are still requiring you to RSVP to all programming.

Please note, you will have to follow hospital protocols (masks and screening) until you enter our clubhouse.

We have hand sanitizers at our Clubhouse entrance, and we will continue to regularly sanitize common spaces. We are sensitive to and recognize everyone has varied thoughts surrounding these guidelines so we will continue to offer virtual as well as in-person programming options as we want to ensure everyone is offered support at their individual comfort level.

As always, if you or a family member are not feeling well or have been exposed to someone with a positive COVID test, please be considerate and stay home until you feel better, as this puts those with compromised immune systems at risk.

We appreciate your patience and flexibility as we move forward.  If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me.  If you would like more information on the CDC guidelines please see CDC Guidelines for Fully Vaccinated Individuals.

Sincerely,

Gilda’s Club Quad Cities

3/23/2020 Notice to Members

We are open for business—in the virtual space, of course!

While we miss seeing your beautiful faces up close and personal, we are happy that you are staying safe in your homes. We are proud to announce that we have modified many of our existing programs to an online format to keep our Community connected. Support groups, Educational Programs and Healthy Lifestyle Activities are already up and running via our HIPAA-compliant Zoom platform.

What does that mean? That means you can continue to meet with your fellow group members, GCQC facilitators, join classes and educational seminars — in a confidential, protected and secure online space that meets Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards.

For the latest updates on our modified schedule, please visit www.gildasclubqc.org/modified.

Our Community is Stronger than Cancer, and now, stronger than the restrictions we are each experiencing due to the Covid-19/Coronavirus. We welcome you to this new format until we meet again face-to-face.

3/16/2020 Notice Sent to Members

Notice Sent to Members 3/16/2020

Dear GCQC Members and partners,

Gilda’s Club Quad Cities (GCQC) is sensitive to the current situation surrounding the Coronavirus/COVID-19 and has been monitoring CDC and Iowa Department of Public Health sites. While we have been implementing rigorous sanitization of our space and appropriate social distancing, it has become apparent that we must do more to ensure the safety of our staff, volunteers and members.

As such, GCQC has made the difficult decision to temporarily suspend all onsite and off-site program offerings beginning today, Monday, March 16 at noon. We will be providing select free of charge support services for cancer patients and their families in the virtual space beginning Tuesday, March 17th. This is an ever-changing situation and we will be assessing week-to-week as to when we will be resuming our onsite and offsite services.

GCQC is here to support you regardless of our ability to do so in person. GCQC members will have access to support groups in real-time using the private, HIPAA-compliant TeleMentalhealth platform, Zoom. Educational workshops will be live-streamed or posted on our website and select healthy lifestyle classes will be available. We will continue to welcome new members via telephone and virtual orientations. Please continue to check our website at www.gildasclubqc.org and tune in to our educational postings on FaceBook at https://www.facebook.com/GildasClubQC.

GCQC is committed to taking a pro-active and informed stance, as is modeled in our free support program for cancer patients and families. All of us recognize the amount of anxiety this change is causing, and we want to do all we can to support you in this time of uncertainty. Again, given the quickly evolving nature of this health threat, we will continue to monitor daily and make additional changes as needed. We will update you as these changes occur.

Our goal is, of course, to return to regular programming at 1234 E River Drive and other locations as soon as it is safe to do so. We thank you for your patience and support as we navigate this unique situation with the urgency our families living with cancer deserve.

Be well,

Joy McMeekan, Executive Director
