“Time means everything.” she said. “Every day…every moment.”

These seven words, spoken in a video testimonial by one of our members, Kimberly Ricketts, hold a special place in my heart, and as I’ve thought about what I want to share with you at this year’s end, it is the wisdom of these words that I can’t seem to shake.

Wisdom that prompts us to look back over the past year with an eye on the memories we’ve made, with gratitude for the people we’ve loved, and with grief for the ones we’ve lost.

Wisdom that reminds us that time is not promised, but is so very precious.

Wisdom that Kim shared with the world around her until the very end of her battle with this horrible disease.

Wisdom that I’d like us to honor in her memory.

When we lost Kimberly this past September, I had the gift of being able to go back and listen to everything she had to say about her diagnosis in 2018 with advanced ovarian cancer, about the family she loved with her whole heart, and about the role Gilda’s was able to play throughout her battle with this disease. Again, the wisdom of her words deserves to be shared as she says it so much better than I ever could:

When a person is diagnosed with a disease, that’s life altering, you realize how much time means. But the real anxiety, the real pressure starts after. Because all of a sudden you had this huge support system…you have everybody in your corner and then you’re done with treatment and it’s like what do you do now, where do we go….

… That’s when I found Gilda’s…Gilda’s got me ready for my 1st recurrence and then second and third. I’ve met life-changing friends (at Gilda’s Club.) It opens our hearts that there are people that understand…they never let us feel alone.”

And when you give to Gilda’s, this is what you’re helping us create – a world in which people living with cancer can find strength through connections, hope through the hearts of other people, and a place to honor the precious time they’ve been given. So, as this year comes to an end, we’re counting on you to help us continue creating this kind of world. Please consider the many giving opportunities described on the attached insert and return your gift in the enclosed envelope or donate online at gildasclubqc.org/give

On behalf of the more than 1,000 active members of Gilda’s Club Quad Cities, thank you so much for your continued support! Your dollars make a difference and we could not do what we do without you.

Sincerely,
