DAVENPORT, Iowa, March 2017 –The Genesis Cancer Care Institute is proud to welcome Jon Dorenbos; NFL player, magician, America’s Got Talent finalist and survivor of a traumatic childhood, for the 8th annual Captivating Conversations fundraiser to benefit Gilda’s Club Quad Cities.  Jon has an amazing talent and will be captivating his audience for a night of magic, laughter, and a whole lot of inspiration as well.

Jon Dorenbos’ past has made him the man he is today.  At the age of 12, Jon’s father murdered his mother and was convicted of 2nd degree murder and sentenced to 13 years in prison.  After a temporary stay with a foster family to allow him to finish his school year, Jon and his sister moved from Woodinville, WA to Garden Grove, CA to live with their Aunt Susan.

Jon got into magic just before his 13th birthday.  He instantly fell in love with it and it became an escape during a time of mourning and transition in his life.  He was obsessed with the sleights and skills involved.  He spent all day, every day, practicing and rehearsing in front of the mirror.  Jon’s Aunt Susan had a friend, Ken Sands, who was a magician.  Ken became his mentor, a friend, and a father figure for Jon for years to come.  Ken didn’t just teach Jon the fundamentals of a trick, he taught him how to find himself as a performer.

Jon graduated from the University of Texas, El Paso with a degree in Business.  He was picked up by the Buffalo Bills as a free agent in 2003 and has also played for the Tennessee Titans.  He is entering his 14th season in the NFL where is currently a long snapper for the Philadelphia Eagles.

In 2016 he auditioned for Season 11 of America’s Got Talent.  Dorenbos won over not just the judges but also the nation.  With less than 1% of votes separating the final three contestants, Jon finished in third place.  Jon closed out his final performance saying, “The magic is not in these hands, it’s not in these cards.  It’s in every one of us. It’s in our breath, it’s in our touch, it’s in our words.”

The event will start at 6:30pm on Friday, March 31 at the new Rhythm City Casino Resort in Davenport, IA.  This event is for the entire family.  Show tickets are $35.00.  A special meet and greet dinner will take place before the main show to a limited number of guests beginning at 5:00 pm.  Those attending this meet and greet will enjoy a fabulous dinner while mingling with Jon and getting photos taken prior to the show.  Individual meet and greet dinner tickets are $100 or $800 for a table of 8.  To purchase tickets to the event or the meet and greet dinner visit www.gildasclubqc.org/conversations.
