DAVENPORT, IA – June 2018 –Gilda’s Club is celebrating our namesake’s 72nd birthday on Thursday, June 28, 2018 from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. at Gilda’s Club (1234 East River Drive, Davenport, IA).

The celebration will include a potluck dinner and the musical talent of Owl Creek Collective. Attendees are asked to bring a side dish for the potluck. The entrée will be provided by Gilda’s Club.

Gilda Radner was born on June 28, 1946 in Detroit, and was the youngest of two children. Upon graduating high school, young Gilda attended the University of Michigan where she majored in drama. Gilda was in the Toronto production of Godspell when she auditioned for the first cast of the Toronto Second City. She performed at The Second City for about a year-and-a-half before moving on to the National Lampoon Radio Hour and the inaugural cast of “Saturday Night Live’s” Not Ready for Prime Time Players.

Gilda’s Club is named in honor of Radner, who, when describing the emotional and social support she received when she had cancer, called for such places to be made available for people with cancer and their families and friends everywhere. Although the Saturday Night Live comedian died in 1989, Gilda’s spirit lives on at every Gilda’s Club, where members join with other “experts” at living with cancer to both give and receive the benefits of love and laughter through the unique Gilda’s Club program.

Owl Creek Collective, will perform a variety of folk, bluegrass, Americana, and original acoustic music.  Featuring soaring harmonies and high-energy instrumentals, Owl Creek’s music is highly listenable and suitable for everybody. The duet’s performances feature the old-fashioned “single-mic technique” favored by Bill Monroe and other early leaders of the bluegrass, folk and Americana music scene.

Registration is required to ensure there is enough food.
