CampCamp Genesis is a FREE camp for kids ages 6-16 coping with a cancer diagnosis in their family held June 26 – July 1 at YMCA Camp Abe Lincoln (1624 West Front Street, Blue Grass, IA).

At Camp Genesis, kids will have the opportunity to be kids again. Many of the children in families who have been affected by cancer are forced to grow up very quickly. During the week of Camp Genesis, they will be able to forget about some of those responsibilities and just be a kid again. As a parent, you know that your child will be in a safe environment and building relationships with other campers who are going through similar situations.

Activities:

  • Archery
  • Horseback riding
  • Canoeing
  • Swimming
  • Attending campfires
  • Field trip to Genesis Cancer Care Institute
  • Sessions with Gilda’s club staff
  • And more…

YMCA Camp Abe Lincoln
The staff come from across the globe and are required to be 18 years of age or graduated from high school. They are put through a rigorous training program to ensure the safety and quality program that you are looking for as a parent. Camp Abe Lincoln is a nationally accredited camp by the American Camping Association (ACA), and keeps up to date with the newest safety techniques as well as program regulations.

Gilda’s Club
During the week, campers will have the opportunity to work with staff from Gilda’s Club of the Quad Cities by participating in hands-on activities to learn about cancer and ways to cope with the disease while building friendships with children who are going through a similar situation.

Genesis Health System
Genesis Cancer Care Institute understands that cancer is much more than the physical and emotional difficulties your family is facing, that is why we want your child to attend this camp for FREE.

Parent Information Night at Genesis
Genesis Cancer Care Institute will be hosting a parent night for camper parents on Wednesday, June 29 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Genesis Cancer Care Institute. You will see pictures of your child as well as updates of how your child is doing at camp.

Genesis will also be giving a presentation about what systems they have in place that can better serve you as a patient or family dealing with cancer. Food and beverage will be provided thanks to Genesis Cancer Care Institute.
